General Camp Information
1. What is Algarve BJJ Camp?
Algarve BJJ Camp organise Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training camps in the beautiful Algarve region of Portugal. We offer high-level BJJ training combined with the chance to experience Portuguese culture, cuisine, and the stunning Algarve landscape.
2. Who is organizing the Algarve BJJ Camp?
The camp is organized by Ben Mann, an experienced BJJ competitor and Purple Belt, and Sujan Shah (Suj), a practitioner and co-founder of the camp. Together, they bring their passion for BJJ and love for the Algarve to create an unforgettable camp experience.
3. What level of Jiu-Jitsu do I need to attend the camp?
The camp is open to practitioners of all levels, from beginners to advanced competitors. Our training sessions are designed to accommodate everyone, with personalised attention to ensure each participant gets the most out of their experience. We don’t have a belt requirement for attendees, but do recommend 6 months of prior training to get the most out of the camp.
4. Do I need any previous experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to attend?
Not a lot,though some previous experience will mean you get the most out of training with us. 6 months is the suggested amount of prior training. Though whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, the camp will meet all skill levels and help you grow in your Jiu-Jitsu journey.
5. When will the next camp take place?
The next Algarve BJJ Camp will take place from October 9th to October 12th, 2025.
6. Where is the Algarve BJJ Camp held?
The camp will be held at Algarve Fight Academy, a dedicated combat sports and martial arts academy in Vilamoura, in the Algarve region of Portugal. The gym that specializes in high-level training and benefits from a range of other facilities, including changing rooms, cardio and strength training equipment.
7. What can I expect from the training sessions?
Expect expert-led BJJ classes focusing on technique, sparring, and drills. We’ll cover everything from fundamental techniques to advanced strategies, helping you improve your game and develop your skills.
8. How many people will be attending the camp?
We will have a maximum of 50 participants at the camp, ensuring an intimate and focused training environment for all.
9. How many instructors will be teaching at the camp?
We have two main instructors for the camp, renowned black belts Charles Negromonte and Seymour Yang, In addition, we’ll have several other experiencedblack belt coaches who are based in the Algarve joining us on the mats to provide a variety of perspectives and expertise.
Booking and Payment
10. How do I book a spot for the camp?
You can book your spot directly on our website through the booking page. Simply fill out the registration form and complete the payment process to secure your place.
11. Can I book the camp for just one day, or do I need to attend the entire camp?
The camp is designed as a full experience, and we recommend attending all the days for the best results. However, if you have special circumstances, feel free to contact us, and we can discuss flexible options. You do not have to attend all sessions, but it is recommended to do so.
12. What is included in the camp fee?
The camp fee covers all seven training sessions, pre and post event communication, social events and access to Algarve Fight Academy through the trop.. If you opt fot the package that includes hotel and transgers, we will collect you from the airport as well as to and from the training camp when sessions are on, and a room at Prafo do Gold hotel for 4 nights in a shared twin room. Flights and meals are not included.
13. What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payments via credit/debit cards through PayPal. All payments are processed securely.
14. Can I pay in instalments?
In special circumstances, we might be able to offer an instalment payment option. Please contact us for more details on how to arrange a payment plan.
15. Is there an early bird discount for the camp?
Yes, we offer early bird discounts for those who book well in advance. For the current camp, all bookings made before 30th April 2025 will benefit from a 15% discount.
16. Do you offer group discounts?
No, we do not offer group discounts, however for teams or groups of 5 or more participants, please contact us and if there is the option of offering any promotional rates, we will do so.
17. Is the camp fee refundable?
We offer a full refund up to 90 days before the camp, less a £50 administration fee. After that, refunds will not be available.
18. How do I cancel my booking if I can’t attend?
To cancel your booking, please contact us as soon as possible via e-mail or on the phone. We will provide details on the refund or transfer process.
19. How do I transfer my spot to someone else if I can’t make it?
If you need to transfer your spot to someone else, please get in touch with us, and we’ll assist in transferring the booking to another person.
Travel and Accommodation
20. How do I get to the camp from the airport?
The nearest airport is Faro Airport (FAO). We recommend taking a taxi or private transfer from the airport to the camp. We can also provide recommendations for transportation options. If you are booking your hotel through us, then we will include transfers and arrange to collect you.
22. What is the nearest airport to the camp?
Faro Airport (FAO) is the nearest airport, located approximately 30 minutes from the camp location.
23. Is there any transportation provided from the hotel to the camp?
For those booking their hotel with us, will will provide transport from the hotel to the camp. FOr those booking their own accomodation, we do not provide direct transportation, but we can assist in organizing transfers or provide local transport options for you.
24. Are accommodation and meals included in the camp price?
Meals are not included in the camp price, but we can recommend nearby hotels and guesthouses where you can stay during the camp. Accomodation is included if you select the Camp + Hotel + Transfers option when making your booking. This is at Prado do Golf hotel, and based on two people sharing a twin room.
25. Can I book my own accommodation near the camp?
Yes, you are welcome to book your own accommodation. We can provide you with a list of nearby hotels and guesthouses for your convenience.
26. What types of accommodation options are available?
We recommend local hotels, guesthouses, or rental apartments. There are various options available based on your preferences and budget.
27. What is the best way to travel to the Algarve from the UK or other countries?
Flights to Faro Airport are readily available from many European cities. From the airport, you can take a taxi or public transport to your accommodation.
28. Are there any recommended hotels or guesthouses nearby?
Yes, we can provide a list of recommended hotels and guesthouses close to the camp venue once you’ve booked your spot.
29. Do you offer shared accommodation or private rooms?
Accommodation booked through us are for shared twin rooms. There is a supplement for your own room, please let us know if that is what you’d prefer. Other options vary depending on the venue you choose. We recommend checking with the accommodation providers for shared or private room availability.
30. Is the camp location easily accessible for people with mobility issues?
Yes, the camp location is wheelchair accessible. If you have specific needs, please let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Training and Schedule
31. How long is each training session?
Each training session lasts approximately 2 hours. There will also be optional open mat sessions available for additional practice.
32. What is the training schedule for the camp?
The schedule includes 2 daily training sessions on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday with one session on the Sunday.
33. Will there be open mat sessions for additional practice?
Yes, we will have open mat sessions where you can practice what you’ve learned, spar with other participants, and ask instructors for guidance.
34. Do I need to bring my own training gear (gi, belt, rashguard)?
Yes, you will need to bring your own gi’s, belt, and rashguard for the training sessions. If you don't have a gi, please let us know, and we can help with arrangements.
35. What should I bring with me for training?
Please bring your gi, belt, rashguard, water bottle, and comfortable training attire. If you have any specific equipment you prefer (e.g., knee sleeves, ankle supports), feel free to bring those as well.
36. What is the class size for each session?
We limit the class size to ensure personalised instruction. Each session will have a maximum of 50 participants.
37. Will the training focus more on technique, sparring, or both?
The training will balance both technique and sparring. We focus on building a solid foundation of techniques while also allowing time for rolling and live practice. With seven sessions over the 4 days, it is important to balance the training to avoid injuries and make sure people make the most of the time.
38. Are there special events during the camp?
Yes, we plan to hold evening dinners, social events, beach trips and a number of other optional activites for guests to take part in during your 4 days with us.
39. Can I get one-on-one instruction if I need extra help?
Yes, our instructors will be available for one-on-one coaching during open mat sessions. Feel free to ask for specific guidance if you need extra help. We will not be offering any private classes though.
40. Will there be any kids or family-friendly activities at the camp?
The camp is focused on adult practitioners, but if you bring your family, we can recommend family-friendly activities and sightseeing in the Algarve.
Culture and Experience
41. Will I have the opportunity to explore the Algarve during the camp?
Absolutely! The Algarve is known for its beautiful beaches, charming towns, and rich culture. During your free time, you can explore the region and enjoy its natural beauty.
42. What cultural activities are included in the camp experience?
While the main focus is BJJ training, we may organize cultural activities such as guided tours of local landmarks or visits to nearby attractions. These will be optional and at an extra cost.
43. Can I experience local Portuguese food during the camp?
Yes! You’ll have the opportunity to try traditional Portuguese dishes, either at the camp or by exploring the local restaurants in the Algarve.
44. How much free time will I have during the camp?
You’ll have plenty of free time to relax, explore, or spend time with fellow participants between training sessions. You’ll also have time for sightseeing or personal activities.
45. Are there sightseeing tours or excursions available?
Yes, we can organize optional excursions to explore the Algarve region, including trips to nearby beaches, towns, or cultural sites.
46. Can I bring my family or friends to the camp with me?
While the camp is focused on BJJ training, your family or friends are welcome to join you. We can provide recommendations for activities they can enjoy while you're training.
47. What is the weather like in the Algarve in October?
October in the Algarve offers pleasant weather, with mild temperatures averaging around 20-25°C (68-77°F). It’s an ideal time to train and explore the region.
48. Is the Algarve BJJ Camp suitable for beginners or only advanced practitioners?
The camp is suitable for all levels. We ensure the training is adaptable, with sessions designed to accommodate both beginners and advanced practitioners.
49. What’s the overall vibe and atmosphere of the camp?
Our camp fosters a friendly, supportive, and relaxed atmosphere. You'll get to train hard, but also have fun, meet new people, and enjoy the Algarve’s welcoming environment.
